WHY CEYLON (Cinnamomum Zeylanicum) AND NOT CASSIA CINNAMON OIL?
Most significant difference is COUMARIN, a toxin that can damage your liver. Ceylon Cinnamon has ultra low Coumarin levels and will not damage your liver. Read here [REF], [REF] to learn more about the coumarin associated risks. (Read more below)

LEAF OR BARK OIL?
In many cases Cinnamon Leaf and Bark Oils can be used interchangeably. The primary difference is cost and aroma. The Bark Oil costs significantly more but smells better.
The leaf oil smells pretty good but cannot match the ultimate aroma of the Bark Oil. Still for everyday use, the cinnamon leaf oil is a good choice.

WHY NOT POWDER?

CINNAMON POWDER -

  • Does not dissolve in whatever drink that you may add it totherefore, it is questionable how much of it you really get into your blood stream at the end of the digestion process, to enrich the body with its health benefits.

  • The powder particles become bothersome in whatever liquid / cream that you may add it to,

  • A great use of the oil is its use in a diffuser/humidifier creating a very a pleasant atmosphere as well as therapeutic one because the cinnamon particles in the air get into the blood stream directly from the breathed air.

CEYLON CINNAMON HEALTH BENEFITS

The Potential Role of Cinnamon in Human Health: This scientific study brings the highlights and conclusions from 77 cinnamon related scientific studies that evaluated the health benefits of this plant and summed up in this image (copied from the article).

Most notably, the researchers bring to focus the benefits of cinnamon for ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE (section 3.3.1) and PARKINSON'S DISEASE (section 3.3.2).
Reading these two sections makes one wonder how
CEYLON CINNAMON BARK OIL HAVE NOT BECOME PART OF THE DAILY DIET OF ADULTS OF 60 YEARS OLD AND ABOVE.

Cinnamon Health Benefits.png

This scientific article [REF] has reviewed another 70 studies that passed its academic quality scrutiny - all associated with the ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) health benefits. The study presents the following findings about health issues to which ceylon cinnamon is beneficial (copied from the article’s results section):

  1. Anti-microbial and anti-parasitic activity,

  2. Lowering of blood glucose, blood pressure and serum cholesterol,

  3. Anti-oxidant and free-radical scavenging properties,

  4. Inhibition of tau aggregation and filament formation (hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease),

  5. Inhibitory effects on osteoclastogenesis

  6. Anti-secretagogue and anti-gastric ulcer effects,

  7. Anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory activity,

  8. Wound healing properties and

  9. Hepato-protective effects.

The reviewed studies reported minimal toxic and adverse effects.”

ADDITIONAL MOST SIGNIFICANT HEALTH BENEFITS OF CINNAMON BARK OIL

Anti-anxiety and anti-depressant activities:

  • The conclusion of this study [REF]: "Cinnamon essential oil might be used as an adjunctive therapy in improving symptoms of depressive and anxiety disorders. However, dose-response effects need further evaluation. Trans-cinnamaldehyde might be responsible for the beneficial effect observed".

  • And the conclusion of this one [REF]: "CE possessed antidepressant efficacy by inhibiting the inflammatory process in the hippocampus so it was able to optimally increase serotonin levels in the hippocampus".

THIS STUDY IS ANOTHER VERY THOROUGH REVIEW OF CINNAMON HEALTH BENEFITS THAT CORROBORATES THE FINDINGS AS PRESENTED ABOVE

CEYLON VS CASSIA CINNAMON OILS

"The objective of this study [REF] was to determine the coumarin content of ground cinnamon purchased from retail markets in the Czech Republic. No sample was labelled with information on the botanical source, but, in some cases, the countries of origin were specified. For comparison, a single cinnamon sample imported directly from a plantation in Sri Lanka that came from Cinnamomum verum was analyzed. Results from 60 ground cinnamon samples comprising twelve brands confirmed a high content of coumarin, with mean levels ranging from 2 650 to 7 017 mg · kg−1. The high coumarin content confirmed that these cinnamon samples obtained from cassia cinnamon were in contrast to the sample from Sri Lanka, which was coumarin-free."

CINNAMON OIL USAGE AND SAFETY

Usage

  • This highly concentrated oil is best for aromatherapy, cooking (food flavouring), massage, and more.

  • As a supplement, use of 1-3 drops of the oil per day is OK.

  • As with all other essential oils, DO NOT use the cinnamon oil without dilution in a carrier oil! To avoid irritation of skin or mucous membrane (lips for example),

For ingestion use,  the "general" recommended practice is 1 - 3 drops per tablespoon (15 ml per tablespoon) of a carrier oil (such as coconut or olive oils). Problem is that cinnamon bark oil specific gravity is 1.03 - 1.05 where as the specific gravity of coconut oil is 0.9134 and that of the olive oil 0.9143. When we add the cinnamon drops into most carrier oils, the drops will "sink" to the bottom on the container and would not mix easily.

We recommend to use coconut milk that has a specific gravity of 1.0029-1.0080 which would makes the mixing so much easier!

NOTICE! Once you have the diluted mixture, take a teaspoon of the mixture once or twice a day whenever you have to suppress your insulin level after eating sweet fruits and the like. If you feel some burning/stinging feeling on your lips (that touched the teaspoon) and palate, take a tablespoon, deep it in your coconut oil and lick and swallow the oil. You will notice that the annoying feeling is gone away in seconds.

A 10 ml glass Measuring Dropping Pipette (with a Rubber Head) is a good kitchen aid to prepare the "dilution mixture" of greater volumes, for repeated usage.

Notice, a dropper oil drop is about 0.05 milliliter (ml), and a tablespoon is about 15 ml so that 1 - 3 drops per tablespoon translates to a recommended concentration of 0.3% - 1% of the cinnamon essential oil in the mixture.

We provide the table below for those who want to prepare larger volumes of cinnamon oil ready for consumption.

4 Usage and safety

  • Do not use it if pregnant or near children under 2 years of age.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Some people may be allergic to Cinnamon Oils.

Safety Information
Ceylon Cinnamon Bark essential oil, is relatively non-toxic.  Its major ingredients - Cinnamaldehyde (above 75%) and eugenol (about 12%) could be  irritating to the mucous membranes (i.e. lips): so use in moderation, always dilute it with a carrier oil (such as coconut or olive oil) 1 - 4 drops per tablespoon. The oil should be used carefully when applied to the skin, causing irritation, reddening, and even a burn to sensitive skin. Therefore, use carefully (no more than half drop per bath for example). Avoid the use in cosmetics and during pregnancy. Read about the properties and usage of essential oils. Consult with a knowledgeable source for indications and contraindications before use. Keep out of the reach of children.
