Avoiding And Combating Cancer
Numerous alternative professionals are now offering practices to avoid and to combat cancer. Not surprisingly, these practices share a lot of fundamental principles. In the following text we will try to shed more light on these principles.

Tumor Growth - Not All Tumors Are Cancerous!
"Consider the countless number of times that your cells divide to make you who you are. Then consider that every time a human cell divides and its DNA replicates, it has to copy and transmit the exact same sequence of 3 billion nucleotides to its daughter cells. Then consider that every time a human cell divides and its DNA replicates, it has to copy and transmit the exact same sequence of 3 billion nucleotides to its daughter cells. Finally, consider the fact that in life (literally), nothing is perfect."
So errors happen all the time, and in general, most errors are corrected "in time" before an erroneous cell starts to replicate and builds a significant tumor that the body fail to "keep in check".
So, what are the missing elements that cause the body to fail removing these erroneous cells? There is a chain of proteins, most notably the Bcl-2 family of proteins that regulates apoptosis, favoring either cell survival or death.

CALCIUM - An Important Signaling Agent 
"Calcium (Ca2+) is a major second messenger in cells and is essential for the fate and survival of all higher organisms. Different Ca2+ channels, pumps, or exchangers regulate variations in the duration and levels of intracellular Ca2+, which may be transient or sustained. These changes are then decoded by an elaborate toolkit of Ca2+-sensors, which translate Ca2+ signal to intracellular operational cell machinery, thereby regulating numerous Ca2+-dependent physiological processes".

Or as it rephrased in this article "Calcium (Ca2+) signaling and the modulation of intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) levels play critical roles in several key processes that regulate cellular survival, growth, differentiation, metabolism, and death in normal cells. On the other hand, aberrant Ca2+-signaling and loss of [Ca2+]i homeostasis contributes to tumor initiation proliferation, angiogenesis, and other key processes that support tumor progression in several different cancers".

Calcium Homeostasis Regulator
Vitamin D regulates calcium homeostasis by promotion of calcium absorption in the intestine, by reabsorption of calcium by the kidney, and by mobilization of calcium from the bone". Furthermore,  "Vitamin D and its' metabolites are a crucial part of the endocrine system that controls whole body calcium homeostasis".
"Calcium is actively absorbed from the small intestine in the presence of vitamin D". "The principal function of vitamin D in calcium homeostasis is to increase calcium absorption from the intestine"
"Given the clinical trial data and the level demonstrated to maximally absorb calcium, the authors recommend an intake of vitamin D of at least 800 IU and calcium of at least 1000 to 1200 mg daily". 
Calcium supplementation (if needed) is best achieved using amorphous calcium carbonate
There are many calcium rich foods and for many calcium deficiency is the result of vitamin D deficiency as we explained above about calcium homeostasis and not a deficiency in calcium intake.

In the following sections we explain more about cancerous tumors and how to "starve them to death". It is strongly recommended to adopt that practice as a precautionary measure when dealing with benign tumors.

Dr Steven R Gundry MD, in his book "Unlocking the Keto Code" emphasis "I like to refer to the quartet of ketones, butyrate, other short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and postbiotics,
and polyphenols as the Fab Four. They all, in their own uncoupling fashion, help to keep your mitochondria in first-rate shape...they all act as histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACis) - cancer-fighting agents!".

"The ketogenic diet (KD) has recently (article from 2021) emerged as a metabolic therapy in cancer treatment, targeting cancer cell metabolism rather than a conventional dietary approach. The ketogenic diet (KD), a high-fat and very-low-carbohydrate with adequate amounts of protein, has shown antitumor effects by reducing energy supplies to cells".

Problem: This study has shown that keto diet does make a change in the gut microbiota. And another review concludes: "This review also provides reasonable evidence of a reduction in the butyrate-producing Firmicutes, Eubacterium rectale, Roseburia, and Faecalibacterium prausnitzii".

This study (and many others) uncover the tight association between gut microbiota and tumorigenesis (the gain of malignant properties in normal cells) and concludes: "...novel strategies integrating probiotics, such as LGG (Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG), with conventional anti-cancer therapies are strongly encouraged".

Keto Diet and Cancer - Bottomline
Fasting and drastic cut of carbohydrates consumption (see more below) - two major elements of the keto diet that were proved to make a significant contribution to cancer prevention and cancer treatment.
 
From Deepack Chopra: "The lifestyle factors that can increase the risk of breast cancer that we can modify include: lack of regular physical activity, drinking alcohol, smoking, unmanaged stress, and exposure to cancer-causing chemicals, therefore paying attention to our choices..."

Sadhguru: "Cancerous cells are present in all our bodies. In the yogic system, we describe cancerous cells as being similar to, let’s say, criminals in a society. If there are a few individuals here and there who commit petty crimes, it doesn't really affect the society. But when they gang up together in one place, something begins to happen. Similarly, having a few cancerous cells in your body is not going to affect your life or health in any way. Generally in yoga, we look at it this way: when certain kinds of blanks happen in the energy body, either because of a person's attitude, food, lifestyle, or any other factor due to which the energy body gets affected, an atmosphere conducive to the growth of cancerous cells is created. So if the flow of energy is not good in a certain part of the body, cancerous cells choose that place to hide and fester.

Reduce, Eliminate Inflammation

Inflammation is considered a hallmark of cancer. There is evidence that inflammation may both promote and constrain tumors. In 1863, a German pathologist observed white blood cells in cancerous tissues. In summery, the cancer cell can exist almost exclusively on glucose, the simple, common carbohydrate. This is its source of energy, and it may die without it (Learn about Keto diet).
Unlike a cancer cell, the healthy cell can also produce energy from fatty acids. Coconut oil, . Eliminate the glucose supply to the healthy cell, and it will continue to flourish. In the cancer cell, some of the mitochondria is inactive for energy production. The malignant cell produces energy from the breakdown of glucose outside of the mitochondria (The Warburg phenomenon), inside the cytoplasm. Therefore, it produces less energy from glucose, almost 20 times less than the healthy cell. Because cancer cells are "programmed" to live, grow and divide, they need a lot of energy, translated to a lot of glucose, provided by a lot of receptors that "suck" the glucose from the blood.

Adding High Doses Of Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a relative of glucose. When cancer cells encounter glucose deficiency, they "compensate" it by this vitamin C alternative (if and when it is available) transported by the GLUT1, GLUT3, and GLUT4 glucose transporters. The cancer cell increases the uptake of the oxidized form of vitamin C, (dehydroascorbate (DHA)), with "destructive" implications.
in low doses, vitamin C , is an antioxidant. It protects the cell from free radicals, at very high levels in the cell, it acts as a pro-oxidant,  producing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). According to several studies, the abundance of the vitamin C, with the help of iron and copper in and around the cell, encourages the production of hydrogen peroxide.
In "regular" cells the catalase enzyme, is in charge of breaking down hydrogen peroxide produced by the mitochondria as part of its ATP production process. This enzyme is a huge protein, built from 500 amino acids, and contains iron. It is able, under optimal conditions (pH 7.5) to break down in one second, and I know you won't believe it, five million molecules of hydrogen peroxide. With "God's help" in most types of cancer cells, "...examined showed both low catalase and glutathione peroxidase levels, suggesting that most cancer cell types cannot detoxify hydrogen peroxide". Consiquetally, vitamin C in large quantities in the cancer cell, with the help of the cell's iron and copper, creates a lot of molecules of hydrogen peroxide, which its catalase is unable to break down. Such excess of hydrogen peroxide, like any free radical, slowly damages the cancer cell.

That is why, for best results, large amounts of vitamin C, injected intravenously (IV) must be accompanied by a diet with almost complete reduction of sugars and carbohydrates (especially the simple ones). This way, the cancer cell with its insatiable glucose craving, will eagerly swallow the "glucose-like" vitamin C, and its activity will be impaired.

"This tumor-killing phenomenon is due to the pro-oxidant characteristics of Vit-C, which, at high concentrations, facilitates the formation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which may be an agent responsible for the anti-tumor impact of Vit-C and its use as a pro-drug in cancer therapies [38,39]".
Yet another study concludes: "At higher concentrations AA (Ascorbic Acid) may increase ATP production by increasing mitochondrial electron flux, also may induce apoptotic cell death in tumor cell lines, probably via its pro-oxidant action. In contrast, at lower concentrations AA displays antioxidant properties that may prevent the activation of oxidant-induced apoptosis. These concentration dependent activities of ascorbate may explain in part the seemingly contradictory results that have been reported previously".

FROM THE DISCUSSION ABOVE AND AS DETAILIED BELOW - BLOOD VITAMIN C CONCENTRATION IS A KEY FOR SUCCESSFUL RESULTS!!!

Adding High Doses Of Vitamin C

As explained in this article "This concentration-function approach to vitamin C (ascorbate) has yielded new physiology and pharmacology discoveries.
With ingested amounts found in foods, vitamin C plasma concentrations do not exceed 100 μmol/L (micromole / liter). Even with supplementation approaching maximally tolerated doses, ascorbate plasma concentrations are always <250 μmol/L (and frequently <150 μmol/L. In contrast, when ascorbate is intravenously (IV) injected, tight gastrointestinal control is bypassed until excess ascorbate is eliminated by glomerular filtration and renal excretion. With IV infusion, pharmacologic ascorbate concentrations of 25–30 mmol/L (millimole / liter) are reached. Note that 30 mm/l is 120 times more concentrated than 250 μmol/L. Such concentration of 30 mmol/L is safely achieved. Pharmacologic ascorbate can act as a pro-drug for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) formation, which can lead to extracellular fluid (of H2O2) at concentrations as high as 200 μmol/L. Pharmacologic ascorbate can elicit cytotoxicity toward cancer cells and slow the growth of tumors".

Hydrogen Peroxid For Lung Cancer

Oxidation of Ascorbate (AscH-) Pharmacological doses (P-AscH-) of plasma AscH- ≥≈20mM, can produce a high flux of H2O2 in tumors! Such concentrations are achievable through intravenous delivery. Catalase is the major enzyme for detoxifying high concentrations of H2O2. "We hypothesize that sensitivity of tumor cells to P-AscH- compared to normal cells is due to their lower capacity to metabolize H2O2. Rate constants for removal of H2O2 (kcell) and catalase activities were determined for 15 tumor and 10 normal cell lines of various tissue types. A differential in the capacity of cells to remove H2O2 was revealed, with the average kcell for normal cells being twice that of tumor cells". The ED50 (50% clonogenic survival) of P-AscH- correlated directly with kcell and catalase activity. Catalase activity could present a promising indicator of which tumors may respond to P-AscH-.

To sum up the above "scientific description": at vitamin C plasma concentration of above 20 mm/l, cancer cells and normal cells produce high levels of H2O2 but!!! cancer cells can remove these cell destructive molecules two times SLOWER than normal cells! Over time, this slower H2O2 removal rate, results in "SELECTIVE" cancer cell destruction!

Does Too Much Vitamin C Cause Side Effects?No! Even at high doses, vitamin C is not known to be toxic or to cause any serious adverse effects. The most common side effects are diarrhea, nausea, abdominal cramps, and other gastrointestinal issues.

Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) For LUNG CANCER
According to the American Cancer Society, most of cancer deaths in the US are the result of lung and bronchus cancer.
This study concludes "H2O2 produces both nuclear and mitochondrial DNA lesions, increases the expression of cell adhesion molecules, and increases p53 activity and other transcription factors orchestrating cancer cell death". Many other studies corroborated this conclusion (examples):

Ty Bollinger's book "CANCER STEP OUTSIDE OF THE BOX" is a very good source for learning about cancer and recommended treatments.
